The Maine Department of Environmental Protection`s Bureau of Air Quality has issued an Air Quality Alert for particle pollution.The alert is in effect until 12 a.m. Saturday. They say smoke from the Eagle Point Energy Center in Orrington has caused particle pollution levels to rise into the Unhealthy forSensitive Groups range Thursday morning.

The Maine DEP said particle pollution in the smoke could reach unhealthy levels for sensitive groups, such as children and people with respiratory problems.

An air quality alert has been issued as a fire continues to burn at an Orrington trash facility. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection issued the alert, as smoke from the fire settles in Midcoast and Downeast Maine, leading to poor air quality.

The Air Quality Alert is no longer in effect. The Maine DEP’s particle pollution forecast is at the moderate level today for eastern interior and mid-coast regions. However, the say those located near the fir in Orrington and within the Penobscot River Valley should pay attention in case flareups occur.
