Hurricane models are showing increasingly high chances that a tropical cyclone could form somewhere in the western Caribbean Sea or southern Gulf of Mexico as early as next week, and forecasters are encouraging Gulf Coast residents to stay vigilant through the remainder of the 2024 season.

A tropical depression is possible as it gradually develops over the northwestern Caribbean Sea moving into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico through next week. A chance of development in the next seven days is 40%. In the central tropical Atlantic, the remains of Gordon is expected to interact with another area of low pressure in the next few days.
