Democrats had hoped to make a long-shot effort to flip the upper chamber, with Gov. Josh Shapiro endorsing just enough candidates to bring the Senate to an even split. But Republicans successfully fended off their challenges.

Three races for the U.S. House in Pennsylvania remained uncalled by The Associated Press on Wednesday, as vote counting continued and Republicans fought to keep their slim majority in the chamber. A House majority would give the GOP a full sweep of power in Congress alongside President-elect Donald Trump in the White House.

Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate race between three-term Democratic Sen. Bob Casey and Republican challenger David McCormick could help Republicans pad their newfound majority in the chamber in a battleground state contest that is one of the nation’s most expensive this year.
