Current election results show there is overwhelming support for the recall of both Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao and Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price. Despite the early results, the Registrar of Voters said that there is still an estimated half a million ballots that have to be counted.

OAKLAND — The recall targeting Alameda County’s top prosecutor initially appeared on the path to success early Tuesday evening, potentially striking a blow to progressivism in the criminal justice system across in one of California’s bluest enclaves.

The latest results from Alameda County show about 65% of voters in favor of each respective recall, but the Associated Press estimates that less than 40% of votes have been counted.

The election marked a referendum on progressive politics in the criminal justice system — particularly after the 2022 recall of San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin.
