INDIANAPOLIS -- The Philadelphia 76ers have had to battle through most of the season without their superstar big man, Joel Embiid, and it has caused them to fall short in a season filled with high expectations.

Embiid, the 2022-23 NBA MVP, has played in just 13 games this season, missing time with knee, foot and sinus injuries. He was sidelined for Philadelphia’s first nine games, sat out seven consecutive games in late November and early December and has been sidelined for the past six games.

Unorthodox lineups and the loss of starters due to injury have the Sixers reeling in the midst of a road trip.

The Philadelphia 76ers face a challenge as Joel Embiid is questionable for their game against the Indiana Pacers due to a foot injury. His potential absence could impact the team's performance, as the 76ers already struggle with injuries and rank low in key stats.

Embiid has experienced some swelling in his left knee after a workout he had on Thursday and he will be re-evaluated in 7-to-10 days which means he will also miss the Jan. 24 matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers. One has to wonder if he will return on Jan. 25 against the Chicago Bulls, but that remains to be seen.

The news arrived after Embiid missed the previous six games because of a sprained left foot. The seven-time All-Star has only played 13 games this season because of the sprained foot, knee swelling, left knee management, a right sinus fracture, and a three-game suspension.

Indiana held Philadelphia without a basket over the final 3:10 as it extended a six-point lead to 13. Forcing 17 turnovers certainly helped the 76ers. Getting outrebounded 50-32 against a team still improving on the glass did not. Pacers: Travel to Paris for two games against San Antonio, the first on Thursday.
