Election Day is here. The final votes in the 2024 presidential election will be cast over the next several hours. It is not a federal holiday, however. Only five states, including New York, recognize Election Day as a public state holiday and mandate employers allow employees paid time off to vote.

The following states will close their polls at 8 p.m. local time on Election Day: New York polls opened at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. on Election Day for in-person voting. Some states don’t have a uniform statewide end time. In New Hampshire and North Dakota polls are open depending on your county or municipality.
