The state called their final witnesses to the stand in the trial of the Rankin County teen accused of killing her mother. On Thursday, the state brought forth expert witnesses in rebuttal. They said there were contradictions in Carly Gregg’s story after her arrest in March 2024.

Fifteen-year-old Carly Gregg is on trial for the murder of her mother, Ashley Smylie, and the attempted murder of her stepfather, Heath. The trial has drawn attention due to Gregg's unusual behavior in court and a video presented as key evidence by the prosecution.

Gregg was 14 at the time of the offenses. Defense Attorneys Bridget Todd and Kevin Camp presented evidence in court in day three of the trial Wednesday showing Gregg was an “exceptional student” with a history of mental health concerns.
