Former NFL Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman believes that with the rule changes regarding quarterback protection, players at the position will be able to stay in the league longer. Aikman, who retired at 34, said if he were in the league now, he wouldn't have suffered as many injuries.

When Troy Aikman retired as quarterback of the Cowboys after the 2000 season, he was shell of his former self, with persistent back injuries that had him looking like an old man on the field.

The former QB recently appeared on the This Is Football podcast with NFL analyst Kevin Clark and discussed some of the differences in rules between today’s game and the past. At one point Aikman was asked, “If you could go back and apply one of the current-day rule changes to when you were quarterbacking the Cowboys, what would it be?”
