Three large wildfires are still largely uncontrolled, but an incoming cold front and cloudy weather this weekend are expected to offer some reprieve, officials said Saturday.

Favorable weather and unstinting efforts by firefighters are helping to bring a trio of destructive wildfires in California under control, state and local officials said Saturday.

Thousands of firefighters aided by cooler weather made progress Saturday against three Southern California wildfires, and officials in northern Nevada were hopeful that almost all evacuees from a blaze there could soon be home.

The three wildfires that have ravaged the mountains east of L.A., destroying dozens of homes, injuring a dozen people and burning more than 155 square miles, still pose threats to some communities.
