Police previously reported that Bryson was last seen after visiting family in Ohio. Two days after Bryson went missing, Cass County DCS workers contacted Indiana State Police regarding allegations of abuse involving Bryson Muir. His grandmother, Cheryl Wright, later told Fox 59 she was the one who reported that he had a black eye.

In January of 1998, a state highway employee found skeletal remains along Fruitridge Avenue near the I-70 overpass in Vigo County.
