California Gov. Gavin Newsom called the Legislature into the special session Saturday after Democrats in the Assembly pushed back on his efforts to pass an energy package that he unveiled last week.

The governor’s office cited cost pressures during a year in which the state had to trim billions from its budget, according to a state senator who backed the measures.
