U.S. stock futures were mixed on Friday as traders prepared to return from the break over the 4th of July holiday. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average were down 23 points, or less than 0.1%.

Gold and silver futures looked to post their highest settlements in a month on Friday as downbeat U.S. economic data fueled expectations for an interest-rate reduction by the Federal Reserve.

The three major indexes are on track to finish the holiday-shortened trading week up. The Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 have climbed more than 2.5% and 1% in the week, respectively. Both closed at all-time highs and notched new intraday records on Wednesday.
