France is on course for a political gridlock after no party secured the majority in the second round of parliamentary elections. As a surprise result, the alliance of the left wing and Green party came in first while President Macron’s centrist coalition came in second.

French voters had, once again, kept the far right out of power. On Monday morning, incertitude: A hung parliament, shaky alliances and the threat of turbulent years ahead.

It was a day of big surprises in France, with the left surging unexpectedly, the far right falling far short of expectations and the question of who will be the next prime minister still unclear.
