Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed Podvig’s assertion Thursday afternoon, when he announced the weapon that struck Dnipro was an experimental medium-range ballistic missile called “Oreshnik.” MRBMs typically travel no farther than 600 miles.

The missile took 15 minutes to reach its target after being launched from Russia's Astrakhan Oblast. It carried six warheads, each containing six submunitions, and reached a speed of over 11 Mach on its terminal trajectory.
