A truck was engulfed in flames after catching fire in Death Valley National Park amid triple-digit heat, rangers say. The stake-bed truck was descending Towne Pass on California State Route 190 on Monday, July 15, when its brakes overheated, igniting a fire, the National Park Service said in a July 18 news release.

Authorities are investigating after they said person on a motorcycle died of heat exposure at Death Valley National Park over the weekend as temperatures broke a record high in the region.

The recent heat wave that baked the West was particularly brutal in Death Valley National Park, which saw nine consecutive days with the temperature reaching at least 125° Fahrenheit.
